Digital Nomad Visa Income Requirements Compared (2026)

May 24, 2026 · 9 min read

Digital nomad visas have converged around a small set of design choices: a monthly income floor, a duration of one to two years initially, and a path to renewal. What varies is the income floor and how strictly it is documented.

Portugal's D8 requires a monthly income around four times the Portuguese minimum wage, evidenced by contracts, invoices or payslips over the last three to six months. It leads to residency and a path to citizenship after several years.

Spain's Digital Nomad Visa requires a monthly income around two hundred percent of the Spanish minimum wage. It is renewable for up to five years and gives EU-wide travel access.

Estonia requires a higher monthly gross income (around four and a half thousand euros in the most recent update), reflecting Estonia's higher wage benchmarks. Application is fully online.

The United Arab Emirates Virtual Working Programme requires a minimum monthly income of around three thousand five hundred US dollars, health insurance covering the UAE, and proof of employment or ownership of a company for at least one year.

Barbados Welcome Stamp requires an expected annual income of fifty thousand US dollars and is valid for twelve months, renewable.

Croatia, Malta, Mauritius, Costa Rica, Colombia, Mexico and Georgia round out the practical list, each with lower income thresholds and shorter durations than the European heavyweights.

Common issues in 2026: income evidence in the wrong format, health insurance policies that do not meet the specific coverage wording required, and criminal background checks that expire before submission.
